Black History Month 2015

Black History Month 2015

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Black History Month is an opportunity to mark the struggles and successes of Black people in the past and present; issues which may have been forgotten about or are absent from our history books and the education system.  In Scotland, it has been celebrated since 2001. Here, Black History Month has encompassed the history of African, Caribbean and Asian people in this country; people who often have a direct link with Scotland through slavery or colonialism. It is a time to acknowledge the contributions, sacrifices and achievements that have been made which inspire, but also a time to remember, and take the opportunity to apply the lessons of the past to build upon our future.

There is something for everyone so come along to join in celebrating Black History Month 2015!

We have an event on the 10th of October in Glasgow, called New Shoots Old Roots. The event is in collaboration with Street Level Photoworks. We will be looking at migration into Glasgow. The event captures a significant part of Glasgow’s and women’s history and contribution to the world. Most of all it captures a significant part of ACWA’s history.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”524″ alignment=”center” border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self” title=”New Shoots Old Roots” img_size=”large” css_animation=”bounce” img_link_large=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
